Who is the course for?
The course is open to:
- Yoga teachers with an interest in pregnancy and babies
- Instructors in yoga for children and infant massage
- Health professionals with related interest
- Mothers looking for a new direction in life’s journey
- Qualified Birthlight teachers
Like all birthlight courses, the course is a blend of theory, practice and teaching methods with the aim of imparting practical proficiency and confidence to students over a relatively short time. We move through practices to create balance and harmony during pregnancy, relieve and prevent discomforts and to prepare for the birth of a baby. You will learn about positions and breathing to ease mum and baby into a gentle birthing experience. Our postnatal moves involve “invisible Yoga” for the pelvic floor and healing and strengthening from within. Baby yoga creates joyful shared sequences of great benefit to both mum and baby. The course offers a wide range of resources for creating flexible lesson plans and offering classes that are both professional and enjoyable. Whenever possible several of the sessions on this course involve practice with guest pregnant women and new parents and babies.
All courses, manuals and paperwork are taught in English only (no translation services).

Some great reasons to train with Birthlight
Birthlight is the gold standard in its field. Quite simply it is the best. More than nine out of ten of those who attend our training rate us as excellent.
We are the first organisation of our type in this field. We are the only ones to offer a continuum of wonderful practices from pre-conception, through pregnancy and birth, through the early postnatal period, to babies and toddlers, for women right through the menopause as well as for their partners and other family members. And we offer these on dry land as well as in water – again the only ones to do all of this.
Many copy cats have grown up around us which is very flattering but Birthlight is the original. We have a team of tutors who disseminate Birthlight knowledge and practices all over the globe.
At its heart is Françoise Freedman who since 1984 has developed a unique approach handed down over generations all over the world, continuously combining this knowledge with findings from cutting edge research. Our ethos and practices are yoga based but not confined to yoga as they take inspiration from anthropology, dance, medical science, anatomy and physiology, art, poetry and above all what it is to be human, a mother, a baby, a parent, a family member.
Join us is you want to know what it feels like to move and breathe with ease and enjoyment, to be able to nurture your needs deeply, to feel the joy of being alive in your mind, heart and body whatever your lifestage, and to enable others to experience this. You can join the classes run by our teachers, enrol on our training courses, attend our study days, be inspired by our yearly conference or simply become our friend.
Once you get involved with Birthlight you will experience something that will change your life forever. Time and time again those we come into contact with tell us that Birthlight has transformed the way they live and work, give birth and parent. We don’t just teach a set of practices like many other organisations- we also spread and embody the underlying attitude of compassion and respect for yourself and others and set free the natural joy that is within all of us.
Join us today and experience the Birthlight spirals of joy expanding around you.
“I really feel the Baby Yoga, and all that goes with it, has given me the most valuable wherewithal to help parents help themselves in this challenging role of parenting in our society. I think that as parents and teachers we are pioneering creative ways of enabling our children to be happy and to grow and learn to take our world forward.”Baby yoga teacher
